Take a look at the lunar rocks in the sample disk. The specimens are placed in the acrylic case in order to preserve its composition. The oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere could alter the appearance of the samples.

These samples are from the Apollo 16 and Apollo 17 missions. To find out more about these missions click here.
 Apollo 17 was the final Apollo mission.



Here are some additional facts:


The orange soil originated 3.5 billion years ago during a volcanic eruption. 


The mare soil fragments were produced when meteorites hit the moon.
